Extra Time Hub celebrates 5th year running

Extra Time Hub participants

Staff and participants at our Extra Time Hub joined together for a special celebration of the programme's successful five years.

EFL Extra Time Hub is part of a national network designed to increase social interaction for over 55s. The Hubs harness the power of football clubs in the local communities to bring people together.

The scheme aims to make a positive difference to the lives of retired and semi-retired people and for them to find out about the range of activities on offer in their free time as well as give them the chance to meet and spend time with other like-minded people from the area.

To welcome the fifth year, regular participants gathered at Community Corner, where they took part in a five-themed quiz, bingo and exercises to warm-up.

Each session starts with exercises and encourages participants to move and stretch, which could help with strength and fitness. Those who aren't able to stand, are able to do chair-based exercises.

''The last five years has seen the growth of the group and volunteers, which has enabled us to provide bespoke activities, both at the Hub and across our wider health programme as the Trust.''

Luke Wilkinson | Health Team Leader, Derby County Community Trust

Great organisation to these sessions has given participants structure and stability on a week-by-week basis. This wouldn't be possible without the support of our generous volunteers, who work hard behind the scenes.

The likes of Tony, David, Les and Maurine have worked on the Extra Time Hub scheme since it first started in 2019. From serving drinks, to welcoming every person that walks through the door.

They are just a handful of many volunteers at Derby County Community Trust, who support and help run sessions at Community Corner. They all dedicate their time and energy to help run our programs.

Their passion and hard work make a huge difference in the lives of those we serve.

Extra Time Hub is also supported and made possible with the work of Making Space. This team are part of a national charity providing health and social care services for adults with mental health conditions, learning disabilities, dementia and their carers. With their help, DCCT can make sessions dementia-friendly.
